It is my distinct honor to endorse Greg Carabine for re-election as Vice President of the Alberta Teachers’ Association. Greg is a steadfast leader, a passionate advocate, and an unwavering champion for public education. His extensive experience, including serving as President and in other executive roles for Edmonton Catholic Teachers Local 54, has equipped him with the skills, resilience, and vision necessary to navigate the complexities of our profession at this critical time.
As someone who has benefited from Greg’s mentorship, I can attest to his exceptional ability to fight for what is right, no matter the cost. Greg’s willingness to take bold stances, engage in tough conversations, and "get spicy" when necessary reflects the kind of courageous leadership we urgently need. He leads with integrity, conviction, and a deep commitment to advancing public education for the benefit of all.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Greg has made a significant impact on my personal experience as a 2SLGBTQ+ educator. He has not only made space for diverse voices within our profession but has actively fought to ensure equity, inclusivity, and respect for all members. This dedication to creating a better and more equitable profession is evident in every action he takes.
Greg’s re-election as Vice President will ensure that Alberta’s teachers have a strong, determined, and principled leader who will continue to fight tirelessly for us all. It is with the highest level of confidence and enthusiasm that I offer my strongest support for his candidacy.
Greg Carabine is a strong advocate for teachers in Alberta. He will make an excellent vice president of the ATA as he is not afraid to ask the tough questions and say what needs to be said. He holds people accountable for decisions they make. A year ago when a few teachers decided to plan a rally to stand up for publicly funded education, Greg did not hesitate to jump in and help. He was crucial in helping make that rally a huge success and getting the city on board with our permits. Greg is knowledgeable when it comes to issues that affect education and teachers in this province. Most importantly, he listens to the teachers in the classroom and what concerns and challenges they face everyday.
In a time when education is regularly under attack, Greg is the right person to represent teachers and stand up for education in Alberta as vice president of the ATA."
Our first meeting was when a short Irishman barged into the office to introduce himself as the Edmonton Catholic Local President, and that he was happy to offer any advice, or insight to me in my new role as the second best local president in the building.
You may ask yourself, who would actually do that? Well, Greg Carabine would.
Not because he meant it, because he didn’t. But because he has a knack for being able to immediately put people at ease, and is able to gain people’s trust through a combination of humour, trust, and speaking his mind. Greg’s ability to make people laugh at themselves, a situation, or even at him builds a rapport with almost everyone he meets.
Greg immediately made me feel welcome and at ease. His door was always open, and he never tired of the endless amount of questions I had for him. He was patient, forthright, and helped me to be a better president in so much that I was learning what a truly great President looked like.
Greg doesn’t shy away from asking the tough questions, whether it be in PEC, or even to myself and our local executive. He knows that his questions may not always be popular, but is always able to explain why he is asking, and that he wants to gain a better understanding so that he can be a better representative to those that entrusted him with the role.
With Greg now running for Vice President, not only do I have absolutely no question in my mind that he will represent us faithfully and honourably, but I unequivocally support him and encourage you to do the same. There is no one I would trust more to represent the teachers of Alberta, and no one that is more cut-out to go head-to-head with this government.
Vote Greg Carabine.
I’ve worked with Mr. Greg Carabine on PEC and before that in his role of President Of Edmonton Catholic Local 54. My most recent professional interaction with Mr. Carabine was on executive staff negotiating committee. In my time with him on that committee with myself as chair Mr. Carabine proved regularly that he is fiscally conservative, we’ll educated and very concerned about the effective management of members money.
It was also clear in our bargaining process that Mr. Carabine has a great understanding of the needs of teachers and their fiscal responsibilities for the Association to be productive and effective, given its current political climate.
Mr. Carabine is an outspoken passionate advocate for public education, public accountability, and the effective and productive conditions of practice for teachers. .
I have absolutely no reservations in recommending that our members vote for Mr. Carabine in his pursuit of attaining one of the Vice President positions.
As Vice-President Greg has worked extremely hard to advocate for public education in our province. He is extremely active on social media and devotes countless hours of his time to answering questions online while supporting teachers from across the province with advice and guidance. His past experiences as President of Edmonton Catholic has given him a strong understanding of the needs of public education teachers. He is passionate about his work and it shows with the commitment to his colleagues across the province.
If you are asking yourself “who should get my vote for ATA vice president?” here are some thoughts. I might say “He has a great name.” He has spoken in the past about his fabulous head of hair but once we get serious I have to talk about his undying dedication to the teachers of Alberta. Greg is visible speaking for us on many social media platforms and in the PEC chamber. He is also fearless and stands up for teachers and for public education no matter the opponent. He challenges government regularly but also questions decisions being made by our own leadership. We are better for having him and we surely want him working for us as we move into the uncertain times ahead! Join me in casting your VP ballot for Greg Carabine.
Greg Jeffery
Greg loves teaching. He knows exactly what it is like to be in the classroom. What makes Greg special is that when the day ends, and teachers go home to their families Greg continues to advocate for us. Greg never stops fighting for teachers. I will be voting for Greg because I want to make sure this profession remains respected. Teachers' selflessness has caused some to believe that just because teachers put others first, they should come last. Greg always puts teachers first. Anytime. Anywhere. That's who I want representing me.
In my time working with Greg Carabine in his roles as President and Past President of Edmonton Catholic Teachers Local, and District Representative for Edmonton-McMurray two terms that describe him are loud and hardworking. Loud and always using his voice to support teachers of Alberta, whether advocating for them to the employer, working for more from the association, or reminding politicians on Twitter of what they said when they do the opposite. Greg is a tireless advocate for the teachers and students of Alberta and will be a strong voice for our members as an Association Vice President.
